Last week in Mrs. Paris and Mrs. Anna’s class they discussed Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Black History Month. They talked about how he wanted equality for all races. They also talked about how their class is a school family and got in a circle and sang “My Lovely Family” by the Roots. Mrs. Paris and Mrs. Anna also incorporated a Valentine’s Day crafts for their families. "Thumb body loves you". Lastly, we were excited to have Mr. Ben Broyles (Mrs. Paris's husband and one of the Jr. High Assistant Principals) bring his drum set to our school and talk to the students about the different parts of the drum and how it coincides with the heartbeat. Last week Mrs. Kayla and Ms. Patsy's class had a blast learning about winter animals! They did a penguin measuring activity, practiced writing in snow (shaving cream) on the tables, played in centers, and had lots of fun playing outside! They even got to dress up like their favorite animal on Friday! They learned that some animals hibernate during the winter, about the letter N, number 6, and the color black. Mrs. Reta and Mrs. Phyllis have had a lot of great things going on in their classroom. Over the past couple of weeks they have learned about colors with a really neat science experiment, checked out some of the vegetables that were harvested from the Sallie Cone garden, drew in the snow (shaving cream), and spent some valuable time with one of our grandparents from the Foster Grandparents program. There is a lot of learning taking place in Mrs. Amanda and Mrs. Melissa's class. Before Christmas break their kiddos were hard at work in centers experimenting with playdough, letters, numbers, and paint. Check out the pictures to see what all they are up to!
The week before Thanksgiving was so busy I didn't get a chance to post our Teacher Feature. This week is all about Mrs. Lily and Mrs. Karen's class. They created turkeys with their picture, talked about a recipe and how they would cook a turkey, and practiced their Thanksgiving play, They also voted for the new president (between Captain America and Queen Elsa) and had lots of fun in centers.
Last week was all about fall and leaves! in addition to talking about things that happen in the fall, Mrs. Sydney and Mrs. Stacy's class went on a nature walk to collect leaves, made a leaf collage for the letter L, and painted watercolor leaves. They also participated in different learning centers and enjoyed the beautiful fall weather on the playground! Check out the photos to see what all they learned!
This week Mrs. Kathy and Mrs. Michaela's class finished up community helpers and studied pumpkins! Check out the photos to see the class discussing a pumpkin, writing about what it looked like, and dressing up as different community helpers!
Last week we talked about Community helpers and different jobs people have! Mrs. Alicia and Mrs. Donna's kiddos practiced writing on paper, whiteboards, and in shaving cream! They also built some creative structures with blocks and manipulatives, had some great circle times, and a lot of fun gross motor time! Mrs. Jennifer and Mrs. Sheena's class had a lot of fun learning about their bodies last week! Some of the fun activities they did were make their bodies out of clay, act out Humpty Dumpty, make x-rays, and label organs on the outline of their bodies! What great fun they had all while learning!
